An explanation of how this version of LingoFizz handles speech and translation. Last reviewed: 24 October 2026.

What happens when you translate

Words you type, or text generated from recognised speech, are sent over the internet to an external translation service so the app can return the translated words. The translation service used by this prototype is MyMemory. Its processing and retention terms are outside the direct control of LingoFizz.

Bulgarian voice playback

When a Bulgarian voice is available in the browser, LingoFizz uses it. Otherwise it can use a free open-source eSpeak NG engine that generates speech on your device. Voice engine files may be downloaded from the project hosting server. Bulgarian text is not sent to a separate paid speech API. Text translation and browser speech recognition remain separate services as explained here.

Microphone and speech recognition

The app asks permission before using your microphone. Speech recognition is provided by the browser or Android speech service and may send voice data to that service. LingoFizz does not provide a guarantee of on-device-only recognition.

Conversation history

The included web translator keeps the translation history for the current page session and clears it when the page is reloaded. It does not provide cloud accounts or synchronised transcript storage.

Website and hosting

The public website does not include an account registration form, newsletter subscription or advertising tracker. Standard web-hosting access and security logs may still be collected by the hosting provider.

When not to use it

Do not use this prototype for confidential, medical, legal, financial or other sensitive conversations. An internet connection and third-party processing may be involved.

Operator information

Before a public launch, the website owner must publish the relevant business/contact details, identify the data controller, verify the translation provider's terms and configure any necessary UK GDPR disclosures and retention information.
